Intentions

The intention of RealEndurance.Com is to create a useful resource for the endurance community. I would like to pay tribue to those who came before us and capture the history of endurance sports.

Background

In 2004, after finishing my 10th American River 50, I was talking to Lisa Demoney (then RD) about figuring about number of folks who has completed the event over 10 times. The result of that discussion led to the initial project of compiling an all time list for AR50. I spent all winter entering the data into the spread sheet and checking for spelling errors. The project was fun and a lot of people found it useful. I repeated the task for Western States and Way Too Cool, two other popular events in the bay area. Eventually the list of the events grew to include some of my favors. A search interface was then implemented to make the lists useful. Another conversation with Steve Jaber led to his completed collection of UltraRunning Magazine. I spend hours traveling back in history and reading about some of old events that isn't currently held. It was fun to see some of amazing time people had ran when they were younger. I decided that it would be fun to create the list for those popular events that was no longer held, as a tribute to those who created, volunteered, and participated in them. Needless to say, entering these pre-historical data into the database was no small task. However, I was rewarded on countless occasions when people came up to me and let me know how much they appreciated the resource. The list brings back some of memory for those who has been around the sport for a while, and they would start to tell me about interesting stories during the old days.
